A mill village on the Tillingbourne
Gomshall Mill, an eighteenth-century watermill on the Tillingbourne, has since been converted into a pub, and the village's older trades included tanning and watercress-growing alongside corn-milling. The village has its own railway station on the North Downs Line, roughly midway between Guildford and Dorking.
Part of Shere's parish
Rather than forming a civil parish of its own, Gomshall sits within the wider Shere civil parish, and the North Downs Way passes just to the north as it follows the chalk ridge across Surrey. The village lies within the Surrey Hills National Landscape.
