Where two rivers meet
Shalford's parish church stands close to the point where the Tillingbourne flows into the Wey, and the eighteenth-century Shalford Mill on the Tillingbourne, a Grade II* listed watermill, is now cared for by the National Trust. The village appears in the Domesday Book under the name Scaldefor.

Shalford's housing runs from detached and semi-detached homes to terraces and flats, a broader mix than the smaller villages further south towards Cranleigh, and a designated Shalford Conservation Area covers part of the older village.
